Which Minn Kota motor, Terrova, PowerDrive, Fortrex or Maxxum?

Let’s face it, if you want a good trolling motor you’re going to get a Minn Kota motor.  The amount of problems that MotorGuide is known for has probably or should have already turned you off to them.

Let’s start with the good ol PowerDrive V2.
The Powerdrive V2 now comes with a Deploy Assist Lever that makes it easier and quicker to lift and deploy the motor.

The ergonomically designed foot pedal controls speed and steering with a momentary or constant on/off switch.  The steering is controled with a side to side motion instead of up or down like some other models.  An 18 foot cord and a high waterproof rating are included.  It also easily works with Minn Kota’s CoPilot.

Powerdrive V2 motors also come with a indestructible composite shaft that is guaranteed for life.

Digital Maximizer optimizes and extends battery life and reduces damaging heat.  This feature allows you to run up to five times longer on a single charge.

Optional AutoPilot, Copilot, and Universal Sonar are available.

Now to the Minn Kota Terrova

Terrova has an innovative stow and deploy system and since the motor is balanced is makes it the easiest of Minn Kota’s motors to handle.

The Terrova foot pedal has a low profile design gives you precise control.  You have two steering options: a heel / tow pedal or left / right steering buttons.  The rotary speed control dial with a momentary/constant toggle.  There is also an Auto Pilot on or off toggle.

Terrova also has the Digital Maximizer and Indestructible shaft as in the PowerDrive V2.  Universal Sonar, Copilot, and AutoPilot are also options for this motor.

Now onto the newer Minn Kota Fortrex

The most unique feature of the Fortrex is the Mono-Arm Design. This motor mount uses a single hinge point and rear pivot bearing.  The aluminum structural beam use no metal to metal contact and 75% less torsion.  What does this mean to you?  Less wear, longer life and quieter operation than other mounts.

Another unique feature is the Counter Tension Stabilizer that uses a spring that applies force whether the motor is up or down.  So when you are on the water there is no give or play and reduced steering torque with quieter operation.

Lift Assist is a unique design that reduces the weight of stow and deploy by half.  It makes as easy as lifting a truck or SUV tailgate by utilizing a nitrogen charged gas spring.

Removable BowGuard 360 degrees makes it easy to lift the motor and bowguard off of the mount.  You just need to remove a single cap screw.  It also eliminates noise and allows for better breakaways from any angle.

The illuminated directional indicator for the Fortrex is very easy to read so you know exactly where you’re heading.

The foot pedal is very responsive and easy to operate with more room for your foot and more exact speed control.

As with the Terrova and PowerDrive V2, digital maximizer comes with these units and universal sonar is an option.  Autopilot and Copilot are not options when you purchase.

And finally the Minn Kota Maxxum

The Maxxum Mount is designed for rough conditions and even stump fields to keep you on the water.  The mount is designed not flex or vibrate.

Just like the Fortrex, Maxxum motors also come with the Bowguard 360

Maxxum motors also have a unique illuminated directional indicator that is easy to read, but only available on foot controlled models.

The Maxxum foot pedal is virtually the same as on the Fortrex with more room for your foot and exact speed control.

An awesome Maxxum feature is the push to test battery gauge.  You can instant see how much battery life you have remaining…for hand control models only.

Digital maximizer is standard and Universal Sonar is an option on select models as well as a 5 speed option.
