Why Leapfish permanent ads is a bad idea for searcher and advertiser

November 6, 2009 ebuyersworld Leave a comment

Leapfish.com launched their new Leapfish 2.0 yesterday.  Quite alot to take in.  It is a bit impressive, but understand that they have not pioneered any new technology, just riding the coattails of true pioneers, Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.  Search aggregators have been around for awhile now, and the vast majority of searchers still use Google, Yahoo, or MSN.

The business plan for Leapfish.com is based on hard selling businesses on buying permanent ad spots on their search pages.  They overcharge on price ($1000 – $7000) for low traffic (50k to 150k visits per month).  This hard sell has worked on many opportunity-seeking marketers and left them disappointed in the end.

But first, let’s look at it from the perspective of the web searcher….people like you and I.  Take a popular item these days, GPS.  Say I’m looking for a deal on a Garmin Nuvi 350.  If  you search Google, you will get the sponsered pay per click ads at the top and the right of the page.  Internet stores running a current special on that model can very easily advertise that model and webpage for your viewing. So you, the Internet shopper will see results from stores really pushing a special price.

As of now, no one has purchased the lifetime keyword for Garmin Nuvi 350 from Leapfish, so searching Google via Leapfish would not show you that you can find one for $139 from gosale.com.

Google sponsored listing advertisers have the capability to change ads and change keywords for those ads, so people searching for a specific term get the most relevent results.  These advertisers can also turn on or off which ever ads they want, whenever they want so they can properly target their customers.

Now look at it from an advertiser’s perspective.  If you have received the call from the hard selling, rude salemen at Leapfish telling you that you will be missing out if you don’t buy this $1,500 keyword right now, please hang up for your sake.  First, the site still has yet to prove it will be the “next big thing”.  Second, there are alot of keywords out there so take your time before you decide to let their salesmen yell RECO!!!!

With Google if you want to advertise selling houses, you choose a variety of keywords to get to your ad.  For example if you are selling houses, you can choose, homes for sale, houses for sale, purchase a home, etc.  With Leapfish, all your eggs go into one basket (one keyword).  So if someone doesn’t search for your exact match, you don’t show up.

All the new additions to Leapfish may be all well and good for some people, but in the they distract the users eye and there is even less focus on who is paying Leapfish’s bills….the advertiser!  Leapfish 2.0 is the advertisers enemy.  Of the few people who actually will use Leapfish on a regular basis, even fewer will see or pay attention to the ads.

Leapfish.com was fun to use at the beginning, but when I want to search for something, I don’t need my search term to look like it threw up all over my computer screen.

Mustang Life Jackets Video

November 5, 2009 ebuyersworld Leave a comment

Don’t sacrifice safety for comfort.  One of the most popular reasons for not wearing a life jacket on the boat is because of the cumbersome nature of the jacket.  Mustang life jackets are comfortable and not cumbersome at all.  They can be comfortably worn over a shirt or jacket.  You can even purchase a jacket that will automatically inflate when submerged in water.

Buying at the big stores, means paying big prices. Tips to buying smart and safe.

November 5, 2009 ebuyersworld Leave a comment

Today’s economy is tough, and boating, fishing and outdoors hobbies are not cheap.  Saving money on anything you can is a priority for most.  Independent storefront dealers do what they can to offer a good selection of products, but usually at a full retail price.  They must buy from a distributor at sizable markup and resell it at a bigger markup just to try and turn a profit for the store.

So in comes Bass Pro, Cabelas, Gander Mountain and other big box store chains offering a huge selection of products at “discount” prices.  For many customers, shopping at their local store or going to their Web site to purchase something has become routine.  They assume that they are getting the best or close to the best price available.  While what they are buying is cheaper than alot of places, it’s not a bargain if you shop around online.

The sames goes for stores like Best Buy, good prices, but not great.  Plus you have to pay sales tax.

If you search for a Minn Kota Trolling Motor on Google, you will find 100’s of results.  Some of them Bass Pro, Cabelas, etc.  But most of them are sites you may not have heard of before.  Are they to be ignored?  Some of them for sure, but many will offer you savings of over $100 on big ticket items, plus no sales tax if you don’t live in the same state as their business.

Obviously, buying from a Bass Pro gives you piece of mind that you are buying from a reputable business.  But there are many reputable businesses on the Internet that can give you better service at a much better price.  They have much lower overhead and can operate on a lower margin to give you better prices.

How do you know who is good and who might screw you over?  There are a few things to look at before you decide to buy.

1. Is the site secure?  Look for a security certificate like from McAffee or Verisign.  Click the certificate to make sure it is valid.  This certificates ensure that the site is secure from hackers and you information is safe.

2. Does the site have a nice design?  Sites that looked like they were done in 5 minutes probably were.  If a company doesn’t put work in on their site, they will not put work in to you give you proper service.

3. Is there a phone number to call and other contact info provided?  Don’t buy from anywhere if you can’t get ahold of someone.  They may take your money and run!

4. Are the shipping costs hidden?  Many sites won’t tell you what the shipping costs are until you’ve entered in your credit card info.  They will overcharge you and figure if you’ve gone that far, you’ll probably continue with your purchase.  It also makes price comparison shopping difficult.  It’s a bit of a shady business practice and any sign of that should be a warning.

5. Is there a shipping and return policy stated.  If you can’t find the shipping or return policy, do not buy!!!  You don’t want to be stuck with something if there is a problem.

6. If nothing else, your credit card company has your back.  At the end of the day, if something goes wrong and you get ripped off, call you credit card company and let them know.  Most cc companies will immediately refund your purchase and go after the scam.

Follow these simple suggestions when searching for something online.  Compare pricing and don’t be afraid to ask for a price match.

Pre orders for Lowrance LSS-1 are piling up

November 3, 2009 ebuyersworld 3 comments

Since the introduction of the LSS-1 Structure Scan by Lowrance, we at eBuyersWorld.com have been very busy taking pre-orders from enthusiastic fishermen.  While there is little doubt in our minds that these new side imaging (structurescan) units will be well reviewed once boaters test them out, the real doubt is whether Lowrance will be able to keep up with demand.

When they introduced the HDS Fish Finder about a year ago, we saw the same type of excitement from fishermen, taking many pre orders.  Lowrance was actually early on shipping some of the units, but unfortunately very late in shipping others.  Since the initial flow of HDS units, there has been a constant backorder on these unit, including right now.  We have at least 5 backorders on HDS’s that will last into December.  This has been the case all year long.

While the HDS series contains many different individual units, the LSS-1 is only one unit.  Less items to make should mean less backorders…..hopefully.

We don’t mean to criticize Lowrance too much, as the quality of their product is top notch, and we know it has to be very expensive to make.  But, they do their company a huge injustice by not being able to keep product in the market to meet the demand.

The point of this article is to educate, you, the fisherman on the importance of not waiting until the last minute to get your new LSS-1 Structure Scan unit.  For most of us, fishing season is limited and dictated by the weather.  Take full advantage of your fishing season by getting the best and most technogically advanced fish finders on the market.  Don’t be that customer that is still waiting to receive their new unit.
